Johann Wilhelm " Willy " Jasper was born on Meldorfer Sandberg No. 22 ( today Marschstraße 37) on 28.01.1898 . He was the eighth child of his seven siblings lived with his birth only four . Three of them were much older than him. The Sandberg was at this time the quarters of the poor in Meldorf and probably visited Johann Wilhelm Jasper like most young Sandberger then the charity school .
In 1916, he was drafted at the age of 18 years and participated as a minesweeper on 1 World War partly in the Navy. After 1918 he went as a sailor at sea . Later he worked as a longshoreman in the Port of Hamburg and lived in the New Town road in Hamburg Gängeviertel . In this quarter , the KPD was the dominant political force.
As the vast majority of his colleagues was Willy Jasper member of the KPD. He took on a role as organizational leaders . The " Red Marine" was distinguished by a special militancy. They were recruited mainly from seafarers, port and shipyard workers. They were stalwart men who were accustomed to strong access and , if it seemed necessary also to strike.
After the seizure of power by the National Socialists in 1933 organized the " Red Navy " armed resistance against the Hitler government . On 21 February 1933 opened units of the Red Navy fire on the Eagle Hotel, a SA- base on Herrengraben . In the firefight , two bystanders were killed, injured another passer and an SA man .
Of the total 45 accused before the Special Court Hanseatic Jasper has denied the deeds the only one and refused to testify .
The case against him was only opened later. Four of the defendants were sentenced to death and executed on 19.05.1934 . In the words of Roland Freislers the Hanseatic special court acted as " armored force of justice " and thus actually "national socialist revolutionary tribunal . " ( Frank Bajohr ) .
On 26 February has been a series of raids carried out on SA members and SA- Local , but the planned raid on the SA- move did not take place . Willy Jasper was injured in this action in a shootout with the police and arrested. After his arrest, he is passed to the command for special use ( KZBV ) of the Hamburg State Police . There, " beatings and torture on the agenda in order to extort confessions and statements . " Were 1934 KZBV is dissolved because of its "primitive ruthless methods," stated the Hamburg Gestapo. Willy Jasper remains unlocked for ten months in prison. It is then sent to the State Hospital Long Horn .
The Special Court at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court sentenced him on 25 September 1934 because of " attempted murder and serious breach of the peace " to death. He himself has denied the deeds . On the evening of 28 September was informed him that the execution would take place the next morning. Contrary to the general practice allowed him to visit his wife Christine in the night before the execution . In the early morning of 29 September 1934 Jasper was led to the place of execution in the courtyard of the detention center . The bells were ringing . The sentence was carried out by the ax . The fully coated execution was made ??public . His body was left to the anatomical institute of the nearest university for research purposes.
In a roll of honor of the Communist Party from 1936 or 1937 Johann Wilhelm Jaspers name is listed . Otherwise, its resistance and the " Red Marines " has neither been documented nor recognized - not even by the Communist Party , which opposed the armed resistance against the Nazis .
